Christmas is drawing ever closer and the next handful of retailers have outlined what they’ve got planned for bakery NPD throughout the festive season.

Many supermarkets, including Asda, Tesco and Lidl, have previously revealed their plans for the Christmas season, with a host of delectable bakery treats from melt-in-the-middle puddings to decadent flavoured mince pies.

Notably, there are a number of over-arching themes across the range, including edible sweet and savoury wreaths and unicorn-inspired reindeer cakes. British Baker subscribers can find out more here about the key trends across bakery this Yuletide season.

Here’s the next raft of festive bakery NPD to be unwrapped:

Aldi

Aldi has taken inspiration from across the globe for its Specially Selected Christmas party food. The range features American favourites such as Mini Gammon Waffles with Maple Sauces & Cinnamon Crumb (centre), Asian-inspired steamed Hirata Buns filled with Oriental Pork or Korean Beef and Slow Cooked Pittas containing Moroccan Lamb or Tandoori Chicken. And, tapping into the trend for wreath-shaped NPD is its Tear & Share Bread Wreath with Camembert (right).

For the main course, Aldi is serving up a Christmas Dinner Wellington (left) which sees turkey, stuffing, Brussels sprouts and cranberry sauce all wrapped up in pastry. There’s something for the vegetarians as well, with Specially Selected Vegetable Parcels available in two variants – Spinach, Leek & Cheddar or Mushroom, Stilton & Cranberry.

Aldi is also rolling out Specially Selected Flavoured Mince Pies in salted caramel and Morello cherry jam flavours as well as an Exquisite Giant Sharing Mince Pie.

Heading into desserts, the discounter has taken inspiration from patisserie, offering up a duo of Bûches in Passion Fruit or Gingerbread & Salted Caramel flavours.

Booths

Those embracing the vegetarian and flexitarian lifestyle will find plenty to enjoy this festive season from northern retailer Booths. It’s offering a contemporary twist on vegetarian-friendly lines, with the likes of Lancashire Cheese and Damson Jelly Parcels (left) comprised of filo pastry, stuffed with traditional cheese and jelly from Hawkshead Relish alongside Mushroom and Ricotta Filo Parcels.

Moving on to mains, Booths is serving up a Beetroot, Feta & Pine Nut Open Puff Pastry Tart (left) with the caramelised ingredients piled on top of the pastry. There’s also a Parsnip, Chestnut & Butternut Squash Puff Pastry Tarts. Both serve two people as a main, or could be placed on a party food spread.

Rounding things off are the on-trend Chocolate and Raspberry Melting Dome (centre) and the Chocolate Melting Middle Pudding. The latter features a generous coating of white and milk chocolate sauce and is topped with crunchy chocolate-covered honeycomb shaped likes stars and snowflakes.

Iceland

Inspiration for Iceland’s Christmas range comes from four key trends: eat with your eyes, exciting and exotic flavours, a meat-free Christmas, and sustainability.

On the meat-free side, Iceland has introduced a Caramelised Root Vegetable Tarte Tatin (left), which features root veg on a puff pastry base and a Parsnip & Portobello Open Tart comprised of puff pastry filled with mushrooms, spinach, garlic and roasted parsnip.

Into desserts and Iceland is aiming to bring some excitement to the dinner table with its Luxury Melting Chocolate Snowflake, featuring a chocolate brownie base topped with a chocolate mousse and Belgian chocolate snowflake shell that melts when a hot sauce is poured over it. There’s also the Luxury White Chocolate and Red Velvet Present (centre), which comprises a red velvet brownie base, vanilla mousse, raspberries and raspberry coulis encased in a white chocolate shell.

Tapping into key flavours such as salted caramel and winter berries are Iceland’s cheesecakes. The Winter Berry Christmas Tree Cheesecake (right) is a vanilla cheesecake covered in hand-placed redcurrants, blackcurrants and raspberries, while the Salted Caramel Christmas Cheesecake is more minimalist in style with salted caramel sauce and cocoa powder.
