Lidl launches charitable bakery pop-up in Ireland

Lidl Ireland has launched a pop-up bakery in aid of its charity partner Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health.

The concept, called The Bakery, kicked off on 21 August and is running for four weeks in four locations across Ireland – Rathmines and Dun Laoghaire in Dublin, Limerick and Cork.

A selection of Lidl’s baked goods will be on sale at all four locations. These are: Chocolate Doughnut, Jam Filled Doughnut, Butter Croissant, Danish Maple and Pecan Plait, Chocolate Twist, Premium Muffins, Toffee Yum Yum, Danish Pastry and Double Chocolate Chip Cookie.

The Bakery will also be hosting a series of ticketed events in the evenings that support mental wellbeing including laughter yoga, singalong socials and acoustic music sets. All proceeds from the events will be donated to Jigsaw. In addition, one cent from every bakery item purchased in Lidl Ireland’s 156 stores nationwide will be donated to Jigsaw.

Jigsaw provides free, confidential and professional support to young people between the ages of 12 and 25 in 13 locations nationwide. Lidl Ireland recently launched a three-year partnership with the charity, which saw the retailer pledge to donate €1 million to it during the partnership.

“Lidl’s pop-up The Bakery provides a safe space to relax with a cup of tea, some tasty treats and to speak about youth mental health or even lend an ear to someone who needs it most,” said The Bakery ambassador Maria Walsh.

“Youth mental health is something I am hugely passionate about and we all have a role to play in this. Make sure to pop down to your local pop-up and take part in the fantastic evening activities, which are sure you leave you feeling good inside – all in aid of youth mental health.”
