Princess Eugenie of York and her fiancé Jack Brooksbank have chosen London-based cake designer Sophie Cabot to create their wedding cake.

The couple, who are to wed at Windsor Castle this Friday (12 October), will have a red velvet and chocolate wedding cake. It has been described in a statement by Royal Communications as “a traditional cake with a modern feel”.

Following in the footsteps of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – who wed on 19 May and had a lemon and elderflower flavour cake – the couple will forego the traditional multi-tiered iced fruit option which has been enjoyed at Royal weddings since the Victorian era.

It will incorporate the rich colours of autumn in its design and will be covered with detailed sugar work including ivy.

Cabot, who started her bespoke cake design business in 2014, came to the attention of the couple through her involvement with The Duke of York’s ‘Pitch@Palace’ programme, where she supplied specially decorated bespoke biscuits.

“I am incredibly excited to be given this wonderful opportunity to create such a special and unique cake. It has been lovely working with Princess Eugenie and Jack and I really hope they enjoy the cake on the day,” Cabot said.

The couple are said to be ‘delighted’ that Cabot can be involved in the celebrations for their special day.
