Wholesale cake manufacturer The Handmade Cake Company has expanded its vegan range with an Orange and Apricot Slice.

The traybake features a shortcake base, layered with an apricot and orange jam filling and topped with an orange and almond sponge, finished with flaked almonds and oats. It is handmade and baked from scratch in the company’s ‘AA grade’ BRC-certified bakery in Berkshire.

It follows the recent release of two other vegan products – a Vegan Belgium Chocolate Fudge Cake and a Vegan & Gluten-Free Blackcurrant Crumble – as the company looks to meet growing demand for dairy- and egg-free bakes.

“Our first priority when developing any of our products is that it needs to be delicious, it is a bonus if it is free-from – that way the product becomes inclusive to all customers, not exclusive to customers seeking free-from cakes,” said Anthony Saison, category manager at The Handmade Cake Company.

The business specialises in making cakes and traybakes for coffee shops and cafés across the UK and Europe. In 2014 it was acquired by French company Mademoiselle Desserts.
