Christmas preview: bakery brands reveal festive fare

There’s less than two months to go until Christmas 2018! If that wasn’t enough excitement, Britain’s bakery brands have been busy whipping up a host of indulgent products for the festive season.

Some retailers and bakery brands have already revealed their sweet and savoury festive bakery NPD, tapping a number of key trends in the process.

In this latest round, we’ve unwrapped more on-trend products from gluten-free panettone, mince pie croissants, Christmas sandwiches and even festive afternoon tea.

Here’s what’s in-store:

Arden & Amici

Italian bakery Arden & Amici is adding two premium panettone flavours to its range this Christmas, all wrapped up in celebratory ‘sparkle’ packaging.

First up is the Gluten Free Mini Panettone (right) which is filled with sultanas, citrus and candied fruit (rsp £2.50). Also joining the line-up is the Tipsy Tiramisu Low Bake Panettone (left) which pairs traditional panettone with authentic Italian flavours of tiramisu (rsp £10).

An Orange & Cranberry Low Bake Panettone, a Mini Chocolate Panettone and a Tall Bake Panettone are also returning alongside a Tuscan Panforte (centre) – a traditional chewy dessert filled with almonds, candied fruit and mixed spice. Almond Ricciarelli, biscuits with a marzipan taste, offers a smaller treat that pairs well with coffee, according to Arden & Amici.

Galaxy

Offering a little bit of Christmas cheer at snack time are Galaxy’s Festive Cake Bars, available in two limited-edition variants with an rsp of £1 for a pack of five. The Galaxy Salted Caramel Festive Cake Bars (pictured) are filled with a soft chocolate sponge and salted caramel centre covered in Galaxy milk chocolate. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Orange Festive Cake Bars offer a chocolate sponge and chocolate orange centre, covered in Galaxy milk chocolate.

Konditor & Cook

London-based Konditor & Cook has unveiled its Starry, Starry Night collection that is packed full of festive favourites and new yuletide treats. The range comes with a hefty hit of booze with flavours such as whiskey, Baileys and amaretto making an appearance.

First up is the new vegan-friendly Amaretto & Cherry Cake, made with a vegan chocolate sponge, a vegan chocolate and amaretto ganache and layered with cherry amour jam. The Whiskey Bomb also combines chocolate and alcohol. It features a chocolate and orange sponge doused in whiskey, enrobed in luxury chocolate marzipan and dusted with cocoa powder. The Chocolate Baileys Cake also commits to this theme offering layers of chocolate sponge and Baileys buttercream.

Konditor & Cook has a few fan favourites returning to its shelves including the Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake, its shortcrust Mince Pies and its Curly Whirly Cake redecorated with a sparkly Christmas design. Lebkuchen and Kipferl, a light crescent-shaped biscuit made with almonds, will also be available along Stollen and Cinnamon Stars.
