An edible house, built from ingredients including Yorkshire pudding, slices of bread and handmade pies, was unveiled by Deliveroo this week.
A team of eight spent two months designing, cooking and building the structure, which was created to celebrate a seasonal surge in orders of “comforting” British dishes made via the app, according to the takeaway delivery service.
Altogether, 960 handmade pies, 1,750 slices of bread, 25 square metres of mashed potato and four litres of gravy paint were used to construct the house, which was erected in Manchester’s Media City.
Features included a Yorkshire pudding garden, curry fireplace, fish and chips door, and beans on toast tiles.
Winter requests for classic dishes via the app had risen 38% on summer orders, Deliveroo said, while Yorkshire pudding, pork pies and pasties were named as the most popular items making a ‘comeback’.
“It’s great to see so many regional classics being embraced by Deliveroo customers,” said Emily Kraftman, Deliveroo UK & Ireland marketing director.
”The public appears to have rekindled their love for some comforting home-grown food.”
