In the EU, all breads and bakery products must convey allergen information in accordance with the Food Information to Consumers Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011.

Pre-packed breads must display allergen information on the package or on a label attached to the package.

It is mandatory to provide allergen information for non-prepacked breads, but member states can decide how this information is made available and the form and expression of the allergen information. In England, the communication of such information is governed by the Food Information Regulations 2014, which states that allergen information of such products must be made available by any means the operator chooses, including orally. Food businesses are responsible for ensuring they have a suitable system to provide accurate and verifiable allergen information that is easily accessible and clearly legible.
