Patisserie Holdings administrators have announced the closure of the company’s Spitalfields bakery and revealed which stores and concessions are to close.

More than 70 loss-making sites are being shuttered: 27 Patisserie Valerie stores, 19 Druckers stores - which are all the remaining sites under this brand - and 25 Patisserie Valerie concessions in Debenhams, Next and at motorway service areas.

One of the Patisserie Valerie closures, in Old Compton Street, Soho, was the store Patisserie Valerie founder Madame Valerie moved to in the 1940s after her original café in nearby Frith Street was destroyed by bombing in the Second World War.

Together with the closure of the Spitalfields bakery, the moves will result in 920 redundancies.

The remaining 122 Patisserie Holdings outlets will continue to trade while the administrators seek a buyer for the business.

“Since our appointment less than 24 hours ago, we have been pleased with the level of interest we have received in the business, and so remain hopeful of achieving a positive outcome,” said David Costley-Wood, partner at administrator KPMG.

He added that it would be “business as usual” at the remaining stores.

Patisserie Holdings entered administration last night after failing to renew its banking facilities, stating, “regrettably, the business does not have sufficient funding to meet its liabilities as they fall due”.
