Feeling the love: more Valentine’s bakery NPD

Bakers and food manufacturers are giving consumers the chance to spread the love in a host of ways including doughnuts, biscuits and Yorkshire puds (yes, you read that right).

And as Cupid draws back his bow, British Baker is delighted to present another selection of loved-up treats on offer this year. Our first round-up of Valentine’s goodies can be found here.

Biscuiteers

Iced-biscuit makers Biscuiteers has unveiled its collection for Valentine’s Day 2019, including products designed for friends. The range comprises the Pop Art Luxe Biscuit Tin (rsp £45), Vintage Love Letter Biscuit Tin (rsp £35), Fries before Guys Letterbox Biscuit (rsp £9), I Love You Letterbox Biscuit (rsp £9), Personalised Valentine’s Letterbox Biscuit (rsp £25), You’re My Lobster Letterbox biscuits (rsp £18) and Jolly Gingers (rsp 6.95 each).

La Belle Cake Company

Leighton Buzzard bakery La Belle Cake Company has created a Valentine’s Cake and Cookies. The cake measures 6” and comprises a vanilla sponge filled with strawberry preserve and vanilla buttercream, and decorated with dark chocolate drips, meringue ‘kisses’, chocolate hearts and a personalised message (rsp £25). The cookies are decorated with a layer of icing and hand piped with romantic messages. They are available as a box of four (rsp £10) or wrapped bouquet of six (rsp £20).

Crosstown Doughnuts

Crosstown Doughnuts is celebrating Valentine’s with limited-edition gift boxes. Alongside three flavours made with its original sourdough, the doughnut maker will also be releasing three vegan Valentine’s flavours for the first time ever. The original line up comprises Crème Brûlée, Strawberry & Sparkling Rosé and Chocolate Ganache, while the vegan flavours are Vegan Crème Brûlée, Vegan Strawberry & Sparkling Rosé and Vegan Banana Cream & Miso Caramel.

Laura Ashley the Tea Room

Laura Ashley the Tea Room, which has branches in Solihull, Burnham Beeches and Coventry, has switched its scones to heart shaped ones for Valentine’s Day. The heart-shaped scones will be served alongside its traditional afternoon tea’s from 11 to 17 February.

Aunt Bessie’s

Aunt Bessie’s has launched limited-edition heart-shaped Yorkshire puddings for Valentine’s Day. The heart-shaped products temporarily replace the Aunt Bessie’s Large Yorkshires and will be available at grocers until March (rsp £1.50/six-pack).

Betty’s of Harrogate

Betty’s has unveiled boxes of fondant fancies that are hand iced with delicate hearts. The fancies are made from Genoese sponge cake filled with buttercream and raspberry preserve and are available in boxes of four (rsp £7.40) and nine (rsp £16.65).

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme has rolled out a three-strong range of heart-shaped doughnuts for Valentine’s Day. The line-up includes the Nutty Chocolotta Heart filled with Nutella, Raspberry Romance Heart filled with raspberry and chocolate truffle crème, and the Smiley Heart with a sticky strawberry and strawberry crème filling (rsp £2.20 each). On 13 and 14 February, there will be a limited-edition three-pack of doughnuts available including the Nutty Chocolatta Heart, Raspberry Romance Heart and an exclusive I Love You Ring doughnut that is covered in pink heart sprinkles. The trio will be available at selected Krispy Kreme cabinets (rsp £6).

Ma Baker

Ma Baker, an award-winning micro bakery in Fulham, London, has created a heart stencil sourdough made with organic flour, water and salt. Baker Liz Wilson said the loaf is perfect for the bread lover this Valentine’s.

Vegan Cakery

Leicester-based Vegan Cakery has added a selection of Valentine’s-themed vegan bakes to its online shop. The range includes the Valentine’s Passionfruit and Coconut Cupcakes (pictured), which comprise a coconut sponge and a passionfruit v’urd (vegan curd), topped with coconut frosting and fondant hearts. Also available are the Mini Valentine’s Bakewells and Valentine’s Biscuits.

Fit Bakes

High-protein, low-sugar bakery Fit Bakes has released limited-edition Red Velvet cakes for Valentine’s Day. A pack contains four mini cakes which are 38 calories each and contain 2.3g of protein (rsp £2.99).

Papa John’s

Takeaway pizza company Papa John’s has released a limited-edition heart-shaped pizza in three flavours; Double Pepperoni, Cheese & Tomato and Hot Pepper Passion. Available until 28 February, the deep-pan pizza is priced the same as the standard pizza shape. The company will also be offering any large pizza for £10.99 from Monday 11 – Sunday 17 February. 

Rinkoff Bakery

Rinkoff Bakery in east London has unveiled a seasonal special of its popular ‘crodough’ – croissant dough fried like a doughnut. The Valentine’s Day version comprises a heart-shaped crodough filled with raspberry jam and decorated with edible hearts.
