Gallery: National Doughnut Week 2019 highlights

The nation’s bakers have been busy raising dough for charity The Children’s Trust in aid of National Doughnut Week (11-18 May).

Established in 1991 by Christopher Freeman of Dunn’s Bakery, more than 100 businesses across the country are taking part to raise money for the charity, which helps children with brain injuries. A portion from each doughnut sold is donated to the charity, with last year’s event raising £33,679.

From traditional fare to boozy treats, and even Eurovision-themed delights, the nation’s bakers have been busy creating something for doughnut lovers everywhere.

Here are some of our favourites:

Eurovision Song Contest range – Dunn’s Bakery, London

The bakery that started it all is helping customers celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest, and National Doughnut Week, in style with a selection of doughnuts. They are glazed and finished with edible toppers depicting hearts with European flags in them. Also available are strawberry cheesecake and tiramisu-inspired doughnuts.

Chocolate orange doughnuts – China Blue, Devon

The ceramic studio, shop and café have been serving up chocolate orange and meringue shard doughnuts this week. The chocolate orange ones come with lashings of chocolate crème, topped with orange zest and Terry’s Chocvolate Orange slices. The meringue variant, meanwhile, is dipped in chocolate and topped with fresh raspberries and a chocolate shard.

Irn Bru doughnut – Breadalbane, Scotland

Embracing National Doughnut Week and its Scottish heritage, the Aberfeldy-based business has created an Irn Bru treat (right) especially for the occasion. It features the iconic blue and orange colours associated with the soft drink and joins the range alongside a raspberry Nutella, strawberries & cream and Aberfeldy tablet doughnuts (left).

Lambrini doughnut – Planet Doughnut, Shrewsbury

Planet Doughnut has embraced its bubbly side with  a Lambrini doughnut. It features Lambrini-infused frosting and filling, an edible gold shimmer and an edible doughnut tiara. It is also offering up classics such as the Jammy Dodger and Biscoff doughnuts.

Toppings are the name of the game at Stanhill Farm with fudge pieces, Smarties, honeycomb bits and marshmallows among the items sprinkled on top of its glazed doughnuts. Oreo and lemon sherbet doughnuts are also available with 100% of the profits donated to charity.
