Village Bakery managing director Robin Jones has said the business will be “stronger than ever” as it looks to rebuild following this week’s devastating blaze.

Pictures taken by the North Wales Fire & Rescue Service have revealed the extent of the damage at the bakery on Wrexham Industrial Estate. A one-storey production area has been devastated by the blaze, which spread to the adjoining office block.

The business said its emergency procedures had prevented injury to any of its 450 staff.

Four fire service vehicles, one aerial ladder platform and an environmental protection unit were still at the site this morning (20 August), 24 hours after the alarm was raised.

The business has rearranged production at its three other bakeries in order to minimise disruption to its customers.

“We will bounce back and be stronger than ever, thanks to the fantastic team working here,” said Jones yesterday.

In a new statement issued today, Jones said the business had been overwhelmed by the support received from customers.

“It has been humbling for us to realise the high regard in which we are held by so many people. It has been particularly heart-warming to see the lovely supportive messages from staff, past and present, as well as the support from our customers and suppliers.

“There is no time for us to feel sorry for ourselves and hard work to restore lost capacity starts today.”

Jones paid tribute to his staff, whom he said were totally committed to ensuring the company overcame this blow.

“We are proud of what we have achieved over the years in building the reputation of Village Bakery as a family-run firm with a mission to make the best-quality products, using our skills as craft bakers and investing in the latest in technology.

“These principles will undoubtedly stand us in good stead as we strive to get back on track as soon as possible.”
