Pidy challenges students to reinvent the afternoon tea

Selection of Pidy pastry cases for afternoon tea

Pidy is launching a new competition that invites students to reinvent the afternoon tea.

The contest is an evolution of the company’s ’Revamp the Vol-au-vent‘ Student Challenge, which it has run for the past two years.

Pidy now wants UK catering and hospitality students to reinvent afternoon tea using a selection of the company’s tartlets.

The business said students can take inspiration “from classic literature or the latest catwalk trends and everything in between to create their own take on afternoon tea”.

Pidy described the competition as part of its ongoing commitment to inspiring the next generation of chefs.

Students will need to submit a written report explaining their concept, complete with method, ingredients and photos. A panel will assess the concepts and choose the seven best entries.

These seven students will be invited to attend a Grand Final Cook-Off, taking place at The Claire Clark Pastry Academy at Milton Keynes College next January. Students will cook live and present their dish to a panel of industry professionals to win the title of Best Afternoon tea.

The winner will be awarded a lunchtime meal for two at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, a trophy, and £200 of catering vouchers.
