Bakery NPD from the 2019 Speciality & Fine Food Fair

Plant-based bakery products were in the spotlight at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair at Kensington Olympia last week.

Also on show were brand new businesses that used the event to soft-launch their baked goods.

Here, British Baker rounds up some of the bakery NPD on show.

Pri’s Puddings

Founded by Priyanka Savjani as a result of an undiagnosable dietary intolerance, Pri’s Puddings makes pocket-sized sweet pies. The range comprises three flavours – Peanut Pie, Pecan Pie and Choco Pie – each with an oaty pie crust and a sweet filling. They are made with natural ingredients and are gluten-, dairy- and refined-sugar-free, as well as being suitable for vegans.

Saintly

New brand Saintly has launched a range of plant-based desserts using “thoughtfully-sourced” ingredients. The range includes five variants – Lemon Meringue, Sweet Almond & Raspberry, Dark Chocolate, Classic Apple and Classic Lemon – and is sold in packs of two 85g tartlets.

The Brook

Following the launch of a range of vegan ready meals, The Brook has launched a trio of vegan cakes that are available fresh or frozen. Flavours include Courgette, Sticky Toffee and Banana & Pistachio. It has also launched a brownie traybake.

Lish

Launched at the show, Lish is described as a healthier cake bar brand with a conscience. The initial launch comprises three flavours – Chocolate Brownie, Zesty Lemon and Zingy Ginger – each containing 125 calories. The bars are free from refined sugar, using coconut sugar as an alternative, and contain no palm oil, additives or preservatives. 

Van Strien

Dutch bakery Van Strien has introduced a range of savoury biscuits into the UK market. The line-up includes five variants: Curry & Cashew Feuilletés, Roasted Almond Feuilletés, Cheese Palmiers, Multiseed Straws and Cheese Straws.

Rootles

Launching at the show, Rootles is described as a “feel-good” snacking brand, which currently has a range of four biscuit stick products. The biscuits include over 40% carrot and sweet potato and contain less than 100 calories per portion. They are dipped in either dark, milk, white or vegan dark chocolate and sold in packs of five sticks.
