Costa expands partnership with Too Good To Go

Costa Coffee has expanded its partnership with food waste fighting app Too Good To Go.

A hundred Costa Coffee sites will now be listed on the app following the successful trial of nine stores, it said.

Customers can download the app, purchase the food from a nearby store and collect at the designated pick-up time. The collection can consist of three or more unsold food items which collectively would total £10, all reduced to a price of £3.

Costa said that, since joining the Too Good To Go app, it had seen a total 10,355 Costa Coffee meals collected.

“We are delighted to be growing our partnership with Too Good to Go, offering customers the chance to purchase unsold food from our stores. We are committed to playing our part in reducing food waste across our business, working with organisations such as Too Good to Go, while also enabling all our store teams to donate food surplus to local charities, and more recently, signing up to the government’s ‘Step up to the Plate’ Pledge,” said Victoria Moorhouse, head of sustainability at Costa Coffee.

“We have seen some fantastic results working with Too Good to Go, preventing over 25,000kg of CO2 emissions through customers using the app to date. We are looking forward to extending the scheme in the future.”

A number of bakeries and food-to-go businesses are also using the Too Good To Go app in a bid to reduce food waste. Cake business Konditor extended its partnership with the app to all five of its London stores in April, while Paul UK opted to include its entire store estate in September.
