Gluten-free brand Mrs Crimble’s is set to launch a vegan version of its best-selling chocolate macaroon.

Rolling out in Tesco stores this month, Vegan Choc Macaroons are said to have the same “moist cake texture” and “golden-brown colour” of the original.

They contain 150 calories per cake and are being sold in packs of six (rsp: £1.79/195g).

“The challenge was to remove the egg ingredients while maintaining the same delicious taste and wonderful texture,” said Bryan Martins, marketing director at Wessanen UK, owner of Mrs Crimble’s.

“Without the eggs, the macaroon still holds together with all the other ingredients, resulting in a deliciously, moist and moreish treat for our vegan and gluten-free consumers.”

The NPD comes after the brand unveiled a duo of Mini Lunchbox Loaf Cakes in Jammy and Double Chocolate in May.
