Cumbria-based Ginger Bakers has partnered up with Shed 1 Distillery to create a gin-infused fruit cake.

Kendal-based cake-maker Lisa Smith, owner of Ginger Bakers, and Andy and Zoe Arnold-Bennett, owners of Ulverston-based Shed 1, teamed up to produce the fruit cake, containing gin, clementine and cranberry.

“Shed 1 Distillery produces incredibly smooth and expertly made gins and I am delighted to be collaborating with them on this innovative project and we are excited to see what else we can develop together in the coming months,” said Smith.

“At Ginger Bakers, we love to surprise our customers with new and interesting flavours.”

Ginger Bakers introduced cranberries, citrus fruit, cinnamon, nutmeg and a selection of other spices, while Shed 1 added its Festive Tipple gin, including cloves, sultanas and cherries, lightly sweetened with orange and lemon zest.

“When the idea was mooted, we jumped at it. To work with such an established, highly respected entrepreneur like Lisa is not something you get asked to do every day,” said Andy Arnold-Bennett.

“We, like Ginger Bakers, believe in sustainability and Cumbrian co-operation. It has been a pleasure and we look forward to working together to create more gin-ger-licious creations.”
