National Doughnut Week is returning next year from 9-16 May.

After raising £32,532 in May this year, the week will return in 2020 to raise funds for The Children’s Trust, a UK charity for children with brain injury.

Sponsored by CSM Bakery Solutions, the fundraising campaign has been running for 28 years. It was launched in 1991 by Christopher Freeman, owner of Dunn’s Bakery.

This year, the funds were raised by hundreds of independent bakers, cafés and shops, which sold their doughnuts for the charity.

Those who took part in the fun included The Cavan Bakery, Truffles Bakery, Greenhalgh’s, Warings Bakery, Raven’s Bakery, Planet Doughnut, Breadalbane Bakery, Bayne’s Family Bakers and JG Ross.

Birds Bakery has participated in the event for many years and, this year, raised over £10,000. The East Midlands bakery chain brought back its salted caramel doughnut by popular demand, as well as its new doughnut bites.

The registration date will be announced in January 2020 on the National Doughnut Week website.
