Funnybones Foodservice unveils spiced apple cake

Hertfordshire-based Funnybones Foodservice is rolling out a spiced apple and cinnamon cake.

Its Pastel de Manzana cake consists of a moist sponge spiced with cinnamon, studded with pieces of apple and topped with a dulce de leche topping.

The topping on the traditional Argentina-inspired dessert adds richness and sweet toffee flavours, said the company.

“This is an extremely popular dessert from South America, one of our specialist regions,” said Tom Styman-Heighton, development chef at Funnybones Foodservice.

The cake is available frozen and is pre-portioned into 12 slices. Once defrosted, it will last for up to seven days in the fridge.

“We think it offers the familiarity of apple cake, but with a twist that consumers will love. Traditional puddings are very fashionable at the moment, but they come with a cheffy touch that makes them stand out from the crowd, just like our Pastel de Manzana.

“As well as a delicious dessert, this cake makes a nice warm addition to a cake selection in a café or tearoom,” added Styman-Heighton.

It should be served warm and each slice requires 20-30 seconds on full power to heat from frozen, said the company.
