Four of the quickest Cornish pasty crimpers have been pitted against each other to determine who is the world’s fastest.
The contest, held as part of the World Pasty Championships at the Eden Project, gave the finalists two minutes to see how many pasties they could crimp.
Jonathan Rosevear of Cornish Premier Pasties and Phillip Bartlett of Proper Cornish tied for the first place with 12 pasties.
But Rosevear ultimately took the title after judges determined he had achieved a total of 267 crimps - an average of 22.5 crimps per pasty – versus Bartlett’s 236.
“This is such a nerve-wracking thing for the crimpers to go through, they are under so much pressure because they are showcasing their profession to the world, but we’re all tremendously proud of Jonathan,” said Fiona Rick, director of Cornish Premier Pasties.
“Our crimpers are all trained to make a minimum of 22 crimps in each pasty as standard and, although we knew Jonathan was a fast crimper, we’re really glad his training came through and he didn’t try to cut this number down on the day, as this turned out to be the deciding factor that gave him the edge.”
The other two finalists were Jackie Tonkin of Prima Bakeries, who crimped 11 pasties, and Katrina Jones of Portreath Bakery with 10 pasties.
