Bloom Bakers launches free Kindness Biscuits

Bloom Bakers Kindness Biscuits

Leeds-based Bloom Bakers is offering free personalised biscuits to help people stay in touch during the Covid-19 outbreak.

The online bakery is each week sending out a limited number of free Kindness Biscuits, comprising a handmade jam sandwich biscuit embossed with an encouraging message and handwritten note.

Consumers can request messages on the biscuits, which can be delivered to any UK address, such as ‘Missing you’, ‘Thinking of you’ or ‘Stay safe’.

“We wanted to make it easier for people to connect during this difficult time. We can very easily connect via virtual tools, but the most vulnerable like the elderly might not have access to this. Plus receiving a surprise biscuit through the post is something that will really put a smile on people’s faces,” said Lisa Shepherd, co-founder of Bloom Bakers.

The coronavirus crisis has caused the business to adapt from mostly serving trade clients, such as Harvey Nichols, Fendi and NatWest, to focusing more on its consumer offering.

“We really didn’t have to do much to facilitate this shift in business focus. There was clearly a need for people to stay connected to their friends and family. Our ‘personalised biscuits by post’ sales saw a rise of 267% pretty much overnight,” added co-founder Saskia Roskam.

The company said its aim was to send out as many free Kindness Biscuits as possible, while working at capacity due to high order numbers and limited availability of baking ingredients.
