A sda says it is seeing massive growth in its organic business and understands that the organic baked goods offering is becoming more and more important to its customers.

Because of the fast growth of the business and the growing concerns of Asda’s customers over environmental matters, Asda has decided to launch a new category at this year’s Baking Industry Awards - namely, The Organic Award.

"We hope that this award will inspire members of the baking industry to drive for ever-improving quality standards, bring innovation to market and drive down the costs, so that organic products are made more affordable to a greater number of customers," says Asda commercial director Huw Edwards.

"The Asda bakery team is working hard to make organic products more accessible to its customers; the size of the organic range has doubled, products are regularly promoted to encourage trial and an organics bay has been instituted to make the products more visible."

This award is open to anyone involved in driving forward the organic bakery sector - from small shops, that can demonstrate excellence in organic retailing, to bakeries producing organic baked goods, whether these are biscuits, cakes, breads or any other baked product.

Judges are keen to hear from all sizes of manufacturers, from small to large, and you do not have to be an Asda supplier to enter.

Entrants to this award should be able to demonstrate a combination of innovation, great quality and a good understanding of what consumers are looking for in an organic baked product.

Original marketing and packaging concepts will also be of interest to the independent judges.
