== FoB revises code on bread weights ==

The Federation of Bakers has re-issued its Code of Practice on Bread Weight Checking for Plant Bakers following the introduction of The Weights and Measures (Packaged Goods) Regulations 2006, which places a duty on packers to ensure their packages have been made up in line with the requirements of the latest rules. Members will be sent a free copy.

== Grants for Anuga ==

British bakery firms considering exhibiting at international food and drink trade show Anuga, could claim a UKTI grant of £1,400 towards their participation costs. Running from 10-14 October 2009 at the Cologne Exhibition Centre in Germany, the show features a bread and bakery and hot beverages section, as well as fine food and organic sections. == Butt Foods MD joins NSA board ==

David Williams, MD of Nottingham-based bakery business Butt Foods, has joined the board of the National Skills Academy (NSA) for Food and Drink Manufacturing, an employer-led organisation being developed to provide the food and drink industry with the training it needs to drive up productivity and competitiveness in the sector. The NSA works alongside Improve, the sector skills council for the UK food and drink industry.

Deflated costs

Deflation is driving down operating costs for small shop owners in the UK, according to a report from insurance firm More Than Business. The cost of running a small business fell by 1.1% in the first quarter of this year and 3.4% in the final quarter of 2008.
