Coffee Republic is revamping its food range as it rolls out a modern lighter interior design across its shops.

The company, which has 130 stores in the UK, is trialling new breakfast and sandwich lines as it looks to bring the quality of its food range in line with its coffee.

"We make our food fresh on site and feel our sandwiches should be seen in a similar vein to Pret," said chief executive Tariq Affara. "Our research showed our sandwiches were seen as in line with other high street coffee retailers. Premium coffee is the mainstay of our business but we also wish to be known as having the best food of any high street coffee shop chain."

The coffee chain went into administration in 2009, but looks to be bouncing back under new Middle Eastern owners. A new flagship store was opened on London’s Tottenham Court Road on 19 January and up to 20 outlets are planned for this year.
