Traveller brides are relying on ABC Cakes in Shotton to make their Big Fat Gypsy Weddings extra special.

The Flintshire firm, which features on Channel 4’s hit programme, opened in 2007 and has had an influx of orders for travellers’ weddings over the past few years. The company had had 14 orders from the traveller community by January and, since the programme was aired on TV, owner Gill Broadfoot said they had had numerous enquiries.

"It’s gone a bit manic," she said, adding, "We were first asked to do a castle and it went from there. They asked if we could do big and I asked, ’How big?’." The biggest cake had 17 tiers and 20 smaller cakes around it.
