Chef input for Peter’s

Savouries manufacturer Peter’s Food Service has teamed up with award-winning chef John Benson-Smith to upgrade the company’s foodservice menu and transform the culinary experience for sports fans on match days. Benson-Smith, who is consultant executive chef to Manchester City Football Club, will visit Peter’s key suppliers to carry out rigorous product checks, before launching a programme of recipe development and improvement. Peter’s supplies the stadia of around 40 professional clubs with its products.

Packed lunch interest

Packed lunches look set to become more popular with 18-34-year-olds according to the results of a new survey by Opinium Research. The 2011 Hopes and Fears report claimed that 36% of the 18-24 age group were looking to cut back on buying lunch out, by making their own, as consumers’ purses continue to feel the pinch.

New Real Bread site

The Real Bread Campaign has launched a new website www.sustainweb.org/realbread with features such as an online directory of Real Bread companies, a 140-page introductory guide to setting up a bakery and a free download for teachers for planning hands-on Real Bread-making sessions for children.

Focus week for salt

National Salt Awareness Week, which takes place from 2127 March 2011, aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing salt intake, particularly for men who are more likely to die from preventable cardiovascular disease at a young age. The week is organised annually by pressure group Consensus Action on Salt and Health, which is critical of salt levels in bread.
