Bakers up and down the UK have been publicising their Royal Wedding-themed products in the run-up to the big day.

"The royal wedding is an exciting time for everyone and our team of cake decorators couldn’t resist making models of the happy couple," said David Smart, production director at Greenhalgh’s.

The Bolton-based craft bakery has created 120cm figurines of Will and Kate out of sugarpaste and will be showcasing them in its 59 stores and giving people the chance to have their picture taken with them. The photos will then be posted on the bakery’s Facebook page, and entered into a prize draw for a Royal Wedding Party Pack and a six inch Royal Wedding Cake.

Sainsbury’s is capitalising on the fact Fiona Cairns, who supplies the supermarket, is making the Royal Wedding cake, with the launch of a box of exclusive commemorative cupcakes, made by the royal cake-baker.

The Kooky Cake Company has been selling cupcakes with an image of Kate and Will on, as well as some London-themed cookies. American bakery Outsider Tart is creating a wedding cake with a difference a twist on an Eton Mess, made with multi-layered meringue, fruit and frosting, while Susan Stevenson owner of Blossom Cakes and Bakes has made a four-tier Royal Wedding cake, decorated biscuits and bunting-themed cupcakes.

Islington cake designer Cynthia Akinsanya, owner of Delights by Cynthia, said the phone has not stopped ringing since the wedding was announced, with enquiries and orders for themed cakes and cupcakes. "This year couples are totally embracing the Cool Britannia theme for their wedding day by including touches of red, white and blue," she said.

Welsh independent bakery Brace’s is to help 50 royal wedding parties go with a swing by donating food and decorations.

Meanwhile Greggs is to donate 10p from every Royal wedding cupcake and jammy heart biscuit and 20p from every coronation chicken sandwich to charity Help for Heroes.
