Fire has severely damaged Wigan pie firm William Edwards Bakery, with the cause currently under investigation.

Fire crews were called to the two-storey site on New Street, Platt Bridge, just after 12.20am on Sunday 1 May.

According to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, approximately 25 firefighters tackled the blaze, which engulfed both the ground floor shop and first floor office area of the two-storey bakery.

The fire was extinguished before it had spread to the production area of the factory.
