Both large and small sandwich producers were honoured at the British Sandwich Industry Awards last Thursday (19 May), with Greggs taking home the top gong.

The event, held at the Lancaster Hotel in London, saw Greggs awarded the British Sandwich Industry Award for its long-standing contribution to the shape of the UK sandwich industry.

Tesco took home the prize for Sandwich Multiple Retailer of the Year, while Subway was recognised as winner of the Specialist Sandwich Bar Chain category.

Sumaya El Kroni, Greencore, was named overall British Sandwich Designer of the Year, after triumphing in the Chicken Sandwich category, with a chicken lemon, coriander, roast vegetable and salad flat bread creation.

The New Sandwich of the Year Award went to Pret A Manger for its Sweet Chilli Crayfish and Mango Bloomer. Greenhalgh’s was named as Bakery Sandwich Shop of the Year, while the British Sandwich Association Sandwich Manufacturer of the Year award went to Solway Foods.
