A free legal advice helpline has been launched to offer support to victims of the recent riots.

Set up by the Law Society, the dedicated telephone helpline will direct victims to pro bono or free legal advice.

Working in collaboration with its partner charity LawWorks and many individual law firms, it has been devised to offer help to small independent shopkeepers in particular, whose livelihoods have been threatened.

Applications for legal assistance will be matched to volunteer lawyers who will offer assistance on a range of matters from insurance and compensation, to contractual, property and employment law.

The helpline number is 020 7092 3949 or email riothelp@lawworks.org.uk.

Full information about the service and details of how to apply can be found online at www.lawworks.org.uk/riothelp.
