Cake manufacturer Perfection Foods is to open a new bakery in Walsall early next year, creating many new jobs in the local area.

The family-run firm currently employs 40 workers but Gurdeep Singh Bath, general manager, said the new site would mean the firm would need to take on an additional 70 workers. The new 16,000sq ft factory is its second manufacturing site in the UK, and will be dedicated to supplying products for the export market. A third site is used for international distribution.

Singh Bath said the business had been exporting its goods on a small scale since 2009, and currently supplied to more than 10 countries. He said the new site would enable it to fully realise its export potential and had been built to support new business.

The bakery makes American-style muffins, fingers slices, giant cookies, flapjacks, slab cakes, tray bakes and Madeira cakes. It also produces a number of additional lines, such as a premium chocolate brownie and soft cookie purely for export.

Perfection Foods was established in 2000 by Brothers Sukhdev Singh Bath and Balwinder Singh Bath. It supplies cakes directly to national wholesalers in the UK, as well as to Asda and Morrisons.
