Holland’s Pies has added a mince & gravy variant to its vegetarian range.

Hitting Tesco stores this month, the pie is Vegetarian Society-approved and joins Cheese & Onion, Cheese & Veg and the recently launched Wyke Farms Deep Fill Mature Cheddar & Onion pies in the vegetarian range.

They will be available in both chilled and frozen formats, with chilled pies sold individually (rsp £1.10) and frozen pies sold in a four-pack (rsp £3.20).

The pie is made using Holland’s shortcrust pastry, filled with a wheat protein cooked in an onion and thyme gravy.

Holland’s said the NPD was not only great for vegetarians, but was perfect for families looking to reduce red meat consumption too.

“We’re very excited to be extending our meat-free offering once again with our new Vegetarian Mince and Gravy Pies. Our meat-free range has extended rapidly over the past few months – with over half of Brits reducing their meat consumption, we saw a real opportunity to tap into this trend,” said Leanne Holcroft, brand manager at Holland’s Pies.

“Variety is one of the top challenges faced by those who choose not to eat meat, so we hope this provides a tasty alternative for those in the mood for a pie just in time for winter.”
