The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited Portadown bakery business Irwin’s to help celebrate its 100th birthday.

The third-generation bakery welcomed the royal couple this weekend for a 90-minute visit, speaking to bakery staff and watching bakers making farls, potato bread and Nutty Krust loaves.

Irwin’s chairman Brian Irwin and technical director Niall Irwin took the royal visitors around the company’s training room, reviewing the business’ operations. Prince Charles additionally unveiled a plaque to commemorate the visit and the royal couple signed the company’s guest book.

Guests invited to Irwin’s centenary celebrations included celebrity chef Paul Rankin, Lord-Lieutenant of County Armagh, the Rt Hon The Earl of Caledon, Upper Bann MP David Simpson and the Mayor of Craigavon, councillor Alan Carson.
