Addo Food Group-owned Riverside Bakery may cut as many as 44 jobs following a review of its business.

The move comes less than two months after the announcement that another Addo business, Lincolnshire-based Spalding Bakery, could see 46 jobs cut following a shake up its shift system. Consultation at Spalding Bakery is ongoing.

Riverside, based in Nottingham, said it needed to make changes to its structure to maintain the success and health of the business.

“As a result, we are reluctantly proposing to reduce the number of roles within our teams, with 44 roles under review as part of a detailed consultation process,” added a spokesman.  “We are also proposing to adjust the terms and conditions of the current pay structure, resulting in a new, simpler system for all employees.”

Riverside currently employs around 340 people at Nottingham, and makes pastry products for retailers including Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Asda. The business also produces gluten-free pastry brand No G.

The spokesman added:  “We fully recognise how hard this proposal is on affected employees and, should our proposals be accepted, we will work closely with employees and their representatives to look for every opportunity to minimise potential job losses.”

Riverside Bakery has enjoyed significant investment in the past few years, according to Addo, enabling the business to develop “state-of-the-art” manufacturing assets.
