Sugar supplier Napier Brown plans to expand its Normanton factory and open a new distribution centre in Hull as it increases sugar imports from outside the EU.

The company has expanded its supply network to countries including Mauritius, Swaziland, Zambia and Malawi in recent years, which will supply into the new Hull depot.

Global sugar shortages have led to supply issues in the EU in recent years, prompting the company to expand its supply base from around five countries to around 15.

Napier Brown also plans to launch a new range of home-baking sugars under the Whitworths brand and boost production at its Normanton factory, which will lead to the creation of 20 new jobs.
