Addo Food Group-owned Palethorpes Bakery has approached Shropshire Council regarding planning permission to build a chilled distribution warehouse.

The proposed warehouse, which will be at its Maer Lane site in the town, will be used to store chilled and frozen food.

“As part of the ongoing development of our business we have recently submitted plans to add to our Palethorpes Bakery site,” an Addo Food Group spokesperson told British Baker.

“We are still in the early stages of planning and will share more information as soon as it is available.”

The business has invested £2 million in developing a unique chef-inspired cooking method that has enabled Palethorpes Bakery to grow its market presence by winning substantial business. The bakery produces 115m products every year, including 55m sausage rolls and 35m pies.

Shropshire Council is expected to make a decision by 27 June 2017.
