Everyone left green-eyed by the new rainbow bagel obsession in America has had their prayers answered, after Beigel Shop decided to create their own.

The 24 hour bakery in Brick Lane, London started to sell the psychedelic breads last week at 50p a bagel. They are made by combining several batches of different coloured bagel dough together.

The shop announced the new venture on Facebook. It said: “Hello Beigel lovers! We are trying something new and going back to the 80s with crazy coloured rainbow beigels!”

The bagels are reported to taste virtually the same as the regular version, so can be filled with the normal range of options including cream cheese, salt beef, nutella and jam.

Hayley White, co-manager of Beigel Shop, said: "My sister lives in New York so I saw an article about the bagel store in Brooklyn and it was really famous and they made the coloured bagels so I took an interest in it and thought why not try it here and obviously it worked. I didn’t expect any of this attention, to be honest."

The news was greeted with jubilation on social media, as these tweets show:

Beigel Shop was founded in 1855 and sells bagels, doughnuts and other baked goods. It claims to be the oldest bagel shop in the UK.
