Scottish Bakers has named Alasdair Smith as its new chief executive officer.
Smith takes up the role on Monday 8 January and replaces Alan Clarke who left the association in June 2017 after seven years in the role.
Craig McPhie, president of Scottish Bakers, said Smith “comes with experience in skills and education, lifelong learning and the media sector”.
Smith previously worked as Scotland director of Creative Skillset (the sector skills council), before which he spent nine years with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and the Scottish Vocational Education Council (SCOTVEC). He achieved his Masters in Business Administration at Strathclyde Graduate Business School.
Smith has “a wealth of experience in bringing industry together in partnership with further and higher education institutions in Scotland as well as having established links with SQA, SDS, the Scottish Funding Council and Scottish Government”, McPhie added.
“Our board of directors look forward to working closely with Alasdair in helping him to continue building our association, along with all our current activities. We sincerely wish Alasdair every success in his position as our new CEO.”
