Series three of BBC2’s The Great British Bake Off will air this Tuesday at 8pm testing 12 of the country’s best amateur bakers.

The BAFTA-winning television series will see bakery experts Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood return as head judges. They will be examining the efforts of the contestants who must produce an upside-down cake in the first episode.

The budding bakers will also have to compete in a technical challenge and recreate Hollywood’s recipe for a rum babas, a hybrid of cake and enriched dough, as well as third cake which must reveal a hidden design when sliced into.

The 16-episode series will be hosted by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, and will see the contestants put through their paces as they face three ‘bake off’ challenges each week.

The first The Great British Bake Off series crowned Edd Kimber, also known as The Boy Who Bakes, as its winner. He has gone on to be a judge for this year’s National Cupcake Championships, organised by British Baker, which saw Emily Johnson of the Upsy Daisy Bakery in Hammersmith, West London, scoop the top prize for her Mojito Cupcake.
