California Raisins’ Bakery Competition is giving bakers the chance to win a trip to Las Vegas and California this year.

Four winners will join California Raisins in the USA this autumn, and will have the opportunity to showcase their winning products at the International Baking Industry Exposition at the Las Vegas Convention Centre in October. The trip will also include a three-day study tour in Fresno, California, to see the company’s production process in action.

For a chance to win, bakers must enter into one of four categories - artisan breads, morning goods, fruit loaf and scones - using raisins as one of their main ingredients in the final product.

A panel of expert judges from the baking industry, including British Baker’s editor Martyn Leek and former Rank Hovis technical sales manager Colin Lomax, will then shortlist a number of products from the initial paper entry to go on and compete in a vigorous taste test at this year’s Bakers’ and Butchers’ Spring Fair, taking place on Sunday 7 April at the Three Counties Showground in Malvern, Worcestershire.

Attendees at the Fair will have chance to score their top three bakery products as part of a blind taste test, alongside additional scoring from professional judges on the day. Based on the highest scoring entries, four winners will be announced on the Bakers’ Fair Stage on the day, who will be visited by representatives from California Raisins at a later date to see the entries in production.
