Brits can now create Big Mac-style burgers at home as Iceland rolls out a triple-layered bun.
The Big Triple Bun, which hit shelves yesterday (21 May), is a three-layered sesame seed brioche burger bun, which Iceland said was designed to help shoppers recreate the fast food classic at home. It has a full crown, wedge and heel, according to the retailer.
The bun is priced at 69p for a pack of two. Iceland suggested pairing it with two 100% British Beef Quarter Pounders, British Mature Cheddar Cheese Slices, iceberg lettuce, onions and Mrs Elswood Burger Gherkins plus sauce, with Thin & Crispy Coated French Fries on the side.
Iceland claimed the triple-layered bun was a UK supermarket first and predicted that it would be the barbecue trend of the summer.
In 2018, research by Lantmännen Unibake brand Americana found that brioche is the burger bun of choice for burger fans in the UK, followed by seeded brioche and grill-marked buns. The company recently teamed up with ‘Burger Lad’ Simon Dukes to help identify new industry trends and research that have the potential to drive new product development in the future.
