Plant baker Brace’s has registered its interest in a Remploy factory site in Croespenmaen, which is under threat from closure.

Mark Brace, director, has officially stepped forward to signify Brace’s interest in purchasing the site, but the situation is very much in the early stages, according to a spokesperson for the bakery.

Remploy aims to provide sustainable employment opportunities to disabled people and those who experience complex barriers to work.

However the government’s decision to reduce Remploy’s current funding has forced it to make significant changes to its operations, and it has just proposed the closure of number of sites, including the Croespenmaen factory.

Brace’s Bakery, which already has a factory in Croespenmaen Industrial Estate, in Newport, South Wales, originally expressed an interest in the site around 10 years ago.
