Devon pie producer launches Mexican pie

12 January, 2016

Chunk of Devon, the Devon-based pie maker, has launched a Mexican-inspired vegetarian pie.

The Ricardo’s Pie comprises a hot-water crust case filled with Quorn, kidney beans, mild chilli and salsa and is topped with cheddar and tortilla chips. It has an RRP of £2.95 per pie and offers an alternative to the company’s other vegetarian options, the Traditional Homity Pie and Cheddar and Onion Pasty.

After successfully trialling the product at various festivals in the south west, Chunk of Devon decided to add the pie to its mainstream selection.

New products

Simon Bryon-Edmonds, owner of Chunk of Devon, said: “We are always on the lookout for new and exciting products to add to our growing line, so it did not take much to convince us to try out Ricardo’s suggestion.

“Our recent Christmas product line – featuring a hearty new Venison and Port Pie, Pork, Chicken and Ham Pie, Turkey, Ham and Cranberry Pasty and good old traditional Pork Pie – has been going down famously with the public and we are confident that retailers will see the same level of sales with Ricardo’s Pie as it is just as delicious.”

Chunk of Devon produces a range of premium pies and pasties which it sells through delicatessens and farms shops throughout the south west of England. In 2012, the company won Britain’s Best Pasty, but was banned from entering again because it is based in Devon.
