Finsbury Food Group foodservice brand Kara has been crowned the cake winner at the 2016 Café Quality Food Awards.
Kara’s apple and blackcurrant crumble cake beat off strong competition after going through a judging process comprising a panel of 200 food experts.
The cake is described as a delicate moist apple sponge filled with blackcurrant jam and buttercream with a crunchy crumble topping.
“We’re delighted to be recognised by the Café Quality Food Awards,” said Kara marketing manager Jane Deegan.
“The team are overjoyed to have an award-winning cake. We have some of the most creative experts in the industry at Kara and we were thrilled to have been recognised for this.”
The apple and blackcurrant crumble was developed in line with the nostalgic food trend that has come into the UK in recent years, said the company, and has “taken a classic apple crumble and reworked it with a modern twist”.
The Café Quality Food Awards, now in their second year, reward excellence in food and drink product development within the multiple and independent café sector.
Finsbury Food Group was last month crowned Celebration Cake Business of the Year at the Baking Industry Awards.
