The unauthorised use of bread baskets has cost school food supplier Gilmoor Foods Ltd (GF) in excess of £6,000.
The North Yorkshire school food supplier has been made the subject of a restraining injunction to stop it using bread baskets to put meat in.
GPS tracking technology, fitted by bread basket recovery firm Bakers Basco, assisted with the investigation, leading to the Harrogate-based food wholesaler being sued over the conversion and misuse of the bakery equipment.
The company was found to be misusing bakery baskets for the storage and transportation of its meat products to GF customers, which included a number of local primary and secondary schools.
Last November, Bakers Basco began impregnating its bread baskets and dollies with a traceable ‘glitter’ additive to deter thieves.
