Ukraine will not export any wheat from 15 November, the country’s agriculture minister confirmed this week.
There had been widespread speculation, in recent weeks, that the Ukraine would impose an export ban, following the effect of poor weather on the crop.
Egypt had already bought 55 kilotonnes (Kt) of wheat from Ukraine in mid-September, for shipment between 21-30 November, which the Ukraine said will still be fulfilled, according to the HGCA.
It said that as of 18 October, the Ukraine had exported 3.57 million tonnes of wheat, adding that the export ban was likely to impact international grain prices.
In the UK, wheat exports for August were at 26.8Kt, taking season-to-date exports (Jul-Aug) to 65.0Kt, down 77% on the same period in 2011.
Imports to date, stand at 340.9Kt, 2.6 times more than last year.
