Shipley-based firm Just Desserts has been awarded a two-star Great Taste Award for its individual Pear and Almond Franzipan tart and a one-star award for its Yorkshire Moggy Parkin.
The company’s Pear and Almond Franzipan tart is handcrafted at the family-run bakery and is made with butter pastry and strawberry jam, covered with franzipan mixture and finished with glazed pears.
The new Yorkshire Moggy Parkin is similar to a traditional parkin, with oatmeal replacing the flour for a lighter-tasting dessert. It is based on an old regional recipe.
James O’Dwyer, managing director at Just Desserts, said: “It’s not the first year we have scooped a Great Taste Award, but each win is another triumph and testament to the high quality of our handmade desserts.
“Our bakery team are absolutely passionate about every product we produce and it shows in the finished results.”
Of the 10,000 products tasted in this year’s awards, only 141 were awarded three stars, with 878 receiving two stars and 2,520 one star.
The finale of the Great Taste Awards takes place next Monday, 5 September, when the Great Taste Supreme Champion will be announced.
