The Cake Crew is in the process of recruiting an additional 25 employees in order to cope with increasing demand for its cupcakes.

The Welsh cake firm, located at The Bala Bakery in Gwynedd, said the growth in orders had come primarily from multiple retailers, with a number of additional contracts secured since the beginning of the year.

Joe Tattersall, operations manager, told British Baker that while cupcakes had previously been sold as part of a much wider range, at the beginning of last year the firm had made the decision to focus on the market for quality cupcakes.

Tattersall said the firm had placed a lot of emphasis on new product development, and had subsequently seen sales of cupcakes increase around 30% in the past year, with a big uplift in demand for seasonal varieties.
