Innovative food and drink companies in the West Midlands are to get a helping hand developing their ideas.

Funding from the West Mid-lands Food Partnership will help small and medium-sized food companies team up with research and development institutions to come up with new products.

Approved applications will be eligible for 50% match funded awards of between £500 and £5,000 in the scheme, managed by Heart of England Fine Foods.

The regional food group is keen to help develop new recipes or enhance the health benefits of existing recipes; redesign product packaging; or implement new systems that will improve companies’ standing in the marketplace.

"Funding can be used for lab testing, licensing and patenting to consultancy fees and training costs," said West Midlands Food Partnership manager James Allen.
