Steak and kidney pie is officially Britain’s number one pie, according to Pukka Pies.

To mark British Pie Week this week (5-11 March), the firm has announced it will be making 1.2m pies to satisfy demand over the coming week.

The firm said that steak and kidney accounted for one in three (32.6%) of its pie sales, making it the clear favourite.

Chicken and mushroom came in second at 26.5%, followed by steak at 18.1% and mince steak and onion with 17.8% of the sales.

Tim Storer, co-managing director, said: “Steak and kidney was the very first flavour of pie produced by my father when he set up the company 49 years ago. Throughout all the regions in Britain, steak and kidney is our number one seller.”
