Subway and forecourt operator MRH Retail have announced a partnership that will lead to 10 more Subway stores being opened in the UK by the end of the year

The brand has already opened three stores at MRH Retail sites in Scotland and now plans to open a further seven in 2014 as part of an ongoing development plan. It plans to have opened 30 stores at select locations by the end of 2015.

MRH Retail is one of a number of convenience stores and food court operators that are partnered with the Subway brand in a non-traditional location.

There are currently 400 Subway stores open or in development in locations such as convenience stores, forecourt sites, hospitals, universities and transport hubs.

Mike Charest, assistant regional director for Subway Europe, said: “Forecourts are an ideal site for our non-traditional stores. Due to their simple operations, minimal space and equipment requirements, our stores are well suited to these sorts of sites. The Subway brand is keen to develop such locations in partnership with successful companies just like MRH Retail.”

John Lynn, managing director at MRH (GB), added: “MRH Retail is constantly striving to improve its consumer offerings. Our partnership with the Subway brand brings a strong brand and operating system, which works well in the forecourt environment. We are keen to develop this partnership and look forward to opening further outlets in the coming years.”

The partnership has already created over 25 jobs, and more are expected with the opening of further stores. The new openings will extend Subway’s existing 1,800 stores in the UK and Ireland.
